Experience

Melissa Nunnink, M.S., CPDT, has worked for the Department of Juvenile Justice at the FETCH Program, where shelter dogs are given a second chance. They are placed with the elderly following a no-force training program with Juvenile Offenders at the Dozier School in Marianna, Florida.

Melissa is a State Representative for the Jack Russell Terrier Club of America, and has been active in Russell Rescue for the JRTCA since 1997.

She held group Canine Good Manners and Clicker and Tricks classes at the Leon County Humane Society for 3 years, as well as agility classes for two years.

Melissa has been a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) since 1999, and is a Certified Pet Dog Trainer (CPDT). She regularly attends seminars and conferences, most recently: Susan Garett's Agility Camp (8/04) K-9 Cruisin' with Ian Dunbar, Trish King and Susan Garrett (2/03), Clean Run Camp, Lexington, Virginia (3/02), Julie Daniel's agility workshop (1/02), Dr. Trish McConnell's aggression seminar (1/02), Ian Dunbar's Instructor Workshop (5/01), Sue Sternberg's seminar on shelter dogs and aggression (1/01), and the APDT Professional Conference in New York (9/01).

Melissa now instructs at Sirius Dog Agility in Decatur, Georgia, and teaches Science at Shamrock Middle School when she's not showing her dogs in agility.

Melissa lives with her three terriers:
"Rigby", Courtwood Eleanor Rigby, AD, P2, 2004 Grand Prix Qualifier, EAC, EJC, OGC, NHC (groundhog)

"Roux", Wicked Sauce MAD, SM, EAC, EGC, EJC

and "Twist", Tally Jack F5, NHC (groundhog) who will debut in agility when she finds it as fun as banking off the living room sofa.

WHAT DOES CPDT MEAN, ANYWAY?

CPDT indentifies a Certified Pet Dog Trainer, demonstrating extensive experience, high levels of expertise and the respect of your peers in the veterinary and training fields. There are less than 1000 CPDT's in the United States; the APDT's high standards for certification are available on thier web site, apdt.com. Standards are such that certification must be kept current with continuing education and examinations.
